STEVENS POINT - UWSP women's tennis won all three doubles matches and the two singles matches necessary to secure its second victory of the 2008 season, downing Carroll University 5-4 in non-conference action.
All three doubles tandems posted convincing victories for the Pointers, where at No. 1,
Rachel Benn (Stevens Point/SPASH) (Stevens Point/SPASH) and
Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA/Pleasant Valley) (Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley) cruised to an 8-2 victory over Emily Linse and Samantha Bachmann. At No. 2,
Emily Riordan (Appleton/North) (Appleton/North) and
Kaitlyn King (Plover/Stevens Point Pacelli) (Plover/Pacelli) defeated Carroll's Stacy Hraban and Sarah Anthony 8-5. No. 3 doubles featured
Kaylei Sorensen (Plover, WI/SPASH) (Plover/SPASH) and
Emily Oxton (Manitowoc/Lincoln) (Manitowoc/Lincoln) coasting to an 8-3 win over Casey Anderson and Tricia Goska.
In singles, the Pointers needed just two victories to secure the win, and go them from Benn and Allbaugh, who both earned straight-set victories over their opponents, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, 6-2 respectively.
The Pointers are now 2-0 on the season and will next be in action on Saturday, Sept. 6 when they will play in the UW-Whitewater Invitational, starting at 8 a.m. Carroll falls to 1-1 on the season and will next face Edgewood on Tuesday, Sep. 9.
