STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point women's volleyball team dropped their nonconference match-up against St. Mary's University on Wednesday afternoon, falling to the Cardinals 3-1. The loss drops the Pointers to 1-2 on the season.
The Pointers also dropped an
exhibition match to host Viterbo University, 3-2.
UWSP started strong, winning the first set 25-23, but St. Mary's rebounded, rattling off three-straight set victories to defeat the Pointers.
Leading the way for the Pointers was
Jennifer Rueter (Burlington/Burlington) (Fr., Burlington/Burlington) who registered nine kills and five digs in the loss.
Whitney Oftedahl (Waupaca/Waupaca) (So., Waupaca/Waupaca) added seven kills while
Amanda Mix (Brookfield/East) added a season-high 33 digs for the Pointers.
For St. Mary's, Courtney Runge and Sarah Gardner each had eight kills. The win improves the team to 5-0.
UWSP returns to action on this weekend when they travel to Aurora University in Illinois for four matches against Webster, North Central, Beloit and Manchester.
