STEVENS POINT – The UW-Lacrosse volleyball team defeated UW-Stevens Point 3-0 in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) matchup Wednesday evening.
The first set featured a back and forth battle with neither team able to take control. The Pointers led 14-10 at one point, but failed to hold on as the Eagles took the set 25-22. The Eagles used that momentum and took the second set 25-18. The Pointers jumped out to a quick lead in the third set, but the Eagles took over quickly and captured the final set 25-8. The loss drops the Pointers to 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the WIAC. With the victory, the Eagles are now 11-4 overall and 2-1 in the WIAC.
For the Eagles, Amber Schoonover (Tomah) had a match best 12 kills on 20 attempts (.500) and Nina Walch (Rollingstone, MN) added nine kills on 16 attempts (.500). Liz Schlobohm (Faribault, MN) recorded 32 assists and tied with Elizabeth Carlisle (Durand) for a team high eight digs.
The Pointers were led by
Jennifer Rueter (Burlington/Burlington)'s (Burlington) 10 kills on 27 attempts.
Amanda Mix (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield) had 13 digs and
Chantel York (Lake Geneva/Badger) (Lake Geneva) recorded 24 assists.
The Pointers will look to get back on track as they travel to Wheaton, Ill. for a tournament set to begin Friday, Sept. 26. The Eagles will play in a tournament this weekend in Platteville.
