STEVENS POINT – The No. 23 ranked UW-Stevens Point Pointers extended their win streak to six as they defeated the No. 12 ranked University of Chicago Maroons 3-2 on Tuesday afternoon at the Pointer Soccer Bowl.

The win is the second in as many years for the Pointers (6-1, 1-0 WIAC) over the Maroons, when last season the Pointers snapped the Maroons' 35-match home unbeaten streak with a 2-1 victory.

Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) struck first for the host Pointers, thanks to a pass from Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield/East) at the 33:35 mark in the first half. The Maroons answered as Brooke Bontz (Fort Collins, Colo.) beat Pam Luckow (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (Kaukauna) for the visitors' first goal, knotting the score at 1-1 with 5:05 remaining in the first half.

The Pointers reclaimed the lead at the 60 minute mark, when Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) tallied her fifth goal of the season, which gave the Pointers the 2-1 lead.

Again the Maroon's fought back to tie, as Anne Scherer (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored on an Emily Benoit (Kalamazoo, Mich.) pass with 12:31 remaining to give the visitors a chance at overtime.

The score remained tied until Emily Walsh (Waunakee/Waunakee) (Waunakee) connected on a Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) (Oconomowoc) pass with 1:07 remaining to give the Pointers the final lead, as the defense, led by Mary Jean Cornelius (West Bend/West) (West Bend/West), Meghan Vanden Heuvel (Naperville, IL/Central) (Naperville, Ill.), Katie Waterman (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) and Mehgan Mausbach (Minocqua) held on for the victory.

UWSP outshot the Maroons 26-14 in the win.

Luckow recorded six saves on the day while Chicago keeper Emma Gormley (Carmel, Ind.) tallied 12.

UWSP returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 20 when they travel to UW-Whitewater to face the Warhawks in a 2 p.m. WIAC tilt. The Maroons face No. 6 ranked UW-Eau Claire on Friday, Sept. 19 in Chicago.
