STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team won two of three doubles matches but Lawrence University won four of six singles matches to pull out the 5-4 victory over the Pointers in non-conference women's tennis action Wednesday afternoon.
The Pointers team of
Emily Riordan (Appleton/North) (Appleton/North) and
Kaylei Sorensen (Plover, WI/SPASH) (Plover/SPASH) picked up a 9-8 (7-5) win over Lawrence to get the Pointers on the board and
Kaitlyn King (Plover/Stevens Point Pacelli) (Plover/Pacelli) and
Emily Oxton (Manitowoc/Lincoln) (Manitowoc/Lincoln) added an 8-6 victory to give UWSP a 2-1 advantage heading into singles play.
In singles, Lawrence notched victories at No. 1, No. 2, No. 5 and No. 6 on their way to the 5-4 victory.
Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA/Pleasant Valley) (Bettendorf, Iowa) was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 3 and Sorensen was a 6-3, 6-0 winner at No. 4.
The Pointers (2-1) return to action on Saturday when they host St. Norbert College at SentryWorld Sports Complex in a 10 a.m. match-up.
