Weise's Hat-Trick Leads Pointers Past Edgewood

STEVENS POINT – Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield/East) scored three goals and Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) added two of her own as the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point rolled past Edgewood College 7-0 in non-conference women's soccer action Wednesday afternoon.

The Pointers got on the board early, as Edgewood scored an own goal for the Pointers, giving the Pointers the advantage just 1:20 into the game. Just over three minutes later, at 5:03, Spees added her first of the game off a Weise pass, giving the Pointers the 2-0 edge.

Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) joined the mix, when at the 11:58 mark she found the back of the net off an Emily Walsh (Waunakee/Waunakee) pass, giving the Pointers the 3-0 lead, where the score stayed for the remainder of the first half.

In the second half, the Pointer barrage continued, as Weise tallied her hat-trick on passes from Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial), Leah Larson (Mincoqua, WI/Lakeland) (Minocqua) and scored one unassisted goal off a free kick, giving the Pointers a 6-0 advantage. Spees added her second of the game at the 60:33 mark, taking a Prawat pass and sending it home, putting the Pointers up by the final score of 7-0.

In goal, Pam Luckow (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (Kaukauna) tallied six saves in just over 77 minutes of work to give the Pointers their third shutout of the season.

UWSP (4-1) opens the WIAC portion of their schedule at home on Saturday, Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. The Pointers will also be celebrating Youth Soccer Month on Saturday.
