Pointers Down Edgewood 7-2

FITCHBURG – The UW-Stevens Point women's tennis team opened the 2008 season with a 7-2 victory over Edgewood College Friday afternoon, taking five of six singles matches and two of three doubles matches in the victory.

The Pointers Rachel Benn (Stevens Point/SPASH) (Jr., Stevens Point/SPASH), Chelsea Allbaugh (Bettendorf, IA/Pleasant Valley) (Fr., Bettendorf, Iowa/Pleasant Valley), Kaylei Sorensen (Plover, WI/SPASH) (Sr., Plover/SPASH), Kaitlyn King (Plover/Stevens Point Pacelli) (Jr., Plover/Pacelli) and Lauren Kluz (Sheboygan Falls/Sheboygan Falls) (So., Sheboygan Falls) all earned singles victories in the match with all but Benn's No. 1 match-up going down in straight sets.

In doubles, the Pointers recorded victories at No. 1 and No. 3, both 8-1 decisions.

UWSP returns to action on Sept. 5 when they travel to Carroll University in Waukesha for a 3:30 p.m. match-up.

Doubles:
1. Benn/Allbaugh (SP) def. Hannah Pinscak/Liz Stark – 8-1
2. Riordan/King (SP) lost to Bridget Prendergast/Kelsey Steinhorst – 8-6
3. Sorensen/Oxton (SP) def. Jenny Pietkanskis/Brittany Storhoff – 8-1
