Caine Wins Second Consecutive Conference 100-meter Title

EAU CLAIRE – For the second straight year, Liz Caine (Jr.-Plover/SPASH) won the 100-meter championship as the UW-Stevens women's track and field team placed fifth out of nine teams today at the 2008 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eau Claire.

Caine set a NCAA Division III provisional qualifying time by winning in 12.24 seconds. Last year, Caine became the first Pointer woman to win a conference title in the 100-meter dash. Caine also finished second in the 200-meter dash with a provisional time of 25.16 seconds.

Kathleen Folbrecht (Jefferson/Jefferson) (So.-Jefferson) finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 59.16 seconds. Angela Steffens (Cottage Grove/Madison LaFollette) (Sr.-Cottage Grove/Madison LaFollette) also finished second in the 800-meter run, posting a time of 2:15.26 seconds. Both the 4x100 and the 4x400-meter relay teams finished second in their respective events. The 4x400-meter team set a provisional qualifying time of 3:54.90 seconds.

In field events, Angela Sheridan (Dubuque, IA/Wahlert) (Jr.-Dubuque, IA/Wahlert) finished fourth in the shot put, throwing a distance of 12.69 meters.

UW-La Crosse won the championship for the second straight season with 192 points. UW-Eau Claire was second with 158.5 points and UW-Oshkosh was third with 140.5 points. UW-River Falls finished fourth with 118 points. The Pointers rounded out the top five with 77 points.

The Pointers will compete at the UW-Oshkosh Invitational next Saturday.
