OSHKOSH – The UW-Stevens Point women's 4x400-meter relay team and Liz Caine (Jr.-Plover/SPASH) garnered All-American accolades today on the final day of the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The 1600-meter relay team of Angela Steffens (Cottage Grove/Madison LaFollette) (Sr.-Cottage Grove/Madison LaFollette), Kathleen Folbrecht (Jefferson/Jefferson) (So.-Jefferson), Andrea Irvine (Green Bay/Bay Port) (Sr.-Green Bay/Bay Port), and Laura Simonis (Rosholt/Rosholt) (Jr.-Rosholt) finished seventh with a season-best time of 3:48.33 seconds. The same foursome finished eighth at last year's championships.
Liz Caine placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a season-best time of 12.04 seconds. Caine becomes the first Pointer woman to earn All-American laurels in the 100-meter dash.
The Pointers finished tied for 53rd place out of 83 teams with five points. UW-River Falls and Illinois Wesleyan both had 35 points to share the national championship. Wartburg was in third with 34 points and Keene State College was fourth with 29 points.
