OSHKOSH – For the second consecutive year, Kyle Steiner (Grafton/Grafton) (Sr.-Grafton) placed second in the decathlon as the UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team is tied for 15th at the NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Steiner set a NCAA Division III season best point total with 7,126 points. He finished first 1,500-meter run today to along with his first place finish in the 400-meter dash yesterday. Steiner was 66 points behind national champion Beresford Brown of Moravian College. With his second place finish Steiner earns All-American accolades.
Cory Baumann (Marathon/Marathon) (Sr.-Marathon) was 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:22.22 seconds. Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) (Fr.-Milwaukee/Riverside University) in the 100-meter dash and Greg Haak (Belleville/Belleville) (Sr.-Belleville) in the 800-meter run failed to qualify for the finals in their respective events. Jerry Prusinski (Rib Lake/Rib Lake) (So.-Rib Lake) also took part in the hammer throw, but was unable to make the finals.
The Pointers have a total of eight points as a team and are tied with five other schools for 15th. The University of St. Thomas is in first place with 19 points.
The third and final day of the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will begin at 11:30 a.m. tomorrow. The Pointers will have both relay teams running in the finals tomorrow.
