Both Relays Qualify for Finals for UWSP Men's Track

OSHKOSH – The UW-Stevens Point men's 4x100 and 4x400-meter relay teams qualified for the finals today at the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

The 4x100 team of Brad Koback (Amherst/Amherst) (Jr.-Amherst), Pat Leonard (Sr.-Chicago, IL/Brother Rice), Nicholas Ver Duin (Howards Grove/Howards Grove) (Sr.-Howards Grove), and Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) (Fr.-Milwaukee/Riverside University) ran a season-best time of 40.94 seconds to advance to the finals on Saturday. The 4x400-meter relay team of Ver Duin, Leonard, Koback, and Josh Schwinn (Fr.-Howards Grove) posted a time of 3:14.62 seconds to also qualify for the finals on Saturday.

Ver Duin also took part in the 200-meter dash today and just missed out on the finals after he ran a time of 21.56 seconds, his fastest of the season. Kyle Steiner (Grafton/Grafton) (Sr.-Grafton) is in third place with 3,559 points after the first five events of the decathlon. Steiner won the 400-meter dash with a time of 48.44 seconds. He was second in the high jump and third in the shot put.

Day two of the 2008 NCAA Division III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships will resume tomorrow at 1 p.m. The decathlon will finish up on Friday and there will be trials for the 100-meter dash and 800-meter run. The 3,000-meter steeplechase final and hammer throw trials and finals will also take place tomorrow.
