WAVERLY, Iowa – Jessica Urban (Hartland/Arrowhead) (So.-Hartland/Arrowhead) is tied for fifth as the UW-Stevens Point golf team shot a first round 336 (+48) to be in 13th place out of 20 teams at the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships at Centennial Oaks Golf Club.
Battling strong winds and occasional rain, Urban led the Pointers on day one with a round of 76 (+4) and is tied with five other golfers in fifth place, six shots back of the leader. Urban shot just one-over par on the back nine, including a birdie on the 17th hole. Sarah Mosher (Evansville/Evansville) (Sr.-Evansville) also had a strong back nine as she finished with a round of 82 (+10) , good enough for 42nd place. Mosher birdied two of the last three holes.
Michelle Pascavis (Waukesha/South) (Fr.-Waukesha/South) posted a round of 87 (+15), which puts her in 80th place. Amanda Dlugopolski (Appleton/East) (Jr.-Appleton/East) sits in 99th place after a first round of 91 (+19). Katie Kautz (Des Plaines, Ill./St. Viator) (Sr.-Des Plaines, IL/St. Viator) is in 103rd place with a score of 93 (+21).
The 10-time defending champions Methodist University is in first place after 18 holes with a score of 307 (+19). Southwestern University is in second place, two strokes back with a score of 309 (+21). DePauw University is third with a round of 315 (+27) and Illinois Wesleyan and Otterbein College is tied for fourth with a score of 317 (+29). Stephanie Mingos of Rhodes College was the only player to shoot under-par in the first round as she is in first place with a 71 (-1).
The second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships will continue tomorrow beginning at 7:30 a.m. The Pointers will first tee off at 8:20 a.m.
