EAU CLAIRE – In its final tune up before nationals, the fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point golf team placed second out of six teams today at the Blugold Spring Invitational at Wild Ridge Golf Course.
After the invite was shortened to one round because of the weather, the Pointers totaled a score of 335 (+43), which was nine shots back of winner University of St. Thomas who had a score of 326 (+34). The host UW-Eau Claire was third with a score of 340 (+48). Carleton College was fourth, UW-Superior was fifth, and UW-Stout rounded out the field in sixth.
Michelle Pascavis (Waukesha/South) (Fr.-Waukesha/South) led the Pointers as she finished second overall after shooting a 78 (+5). Pascavis finished two shots back of Meghan Sobotta of Eau Claire, who took Medalist Honors.
Jessica Urban (Hartland/Arrowhead) (So.-Hartland/Arrowhead) tied for ninth after she posted a round of 84 (+11). Sarah Mosher (Evansville/Evansville) (Sr.-Evansville) was a shot back as she places 12th with an 85 (+12). Amanda Dlugopolski (Appleton/East) (Jr.-Appleton/East) finished tied for 15th with a score of 88 (+15). Emily Fraser (New Lenox, Ill/New Lenox) (So.-New Lenox, IL) tied for 20th with a round of 91 (+18). Katie Kautz (Des Plaines, Ill./St. Viator) (Des Plaines, IL/St. Viator) was 26th with a score of 95 (+22).
The Pointers will now prepare for the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships at Centennial Oaks Golf Club in Waverly, Iowa. The first round begins on Tuesday, May 13th.
