JEKYLL ISLAND, Ga. – Jessica Urban (Hartland/Arrowhead) (So.-Hartland/Arrowhead) took first place by two strokes as the fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point golf team began the spring season by placing sixth out of 26 teams at the Jekyll Island Women's Collegiate Invite at Indian Mound Golf Course.
Urban was tied for second after the first round of play, but then had the lead after the second round by one stroke. Urban shot a final round 78 (+6), which was tied for the lowest score on the round to win the invite with a total score of 229 (+13). Last year, Urban finished second in this event, but was the top NCAA Division III finisher.
Other Pointers finishing in the top 50 were Amanda Dlugopolski (Appleton/East) (Jr.-Appleton/East), who was tied for 28 the after she shot 254 (+38). Sarah Mosher (Evansville/Evansville) (Sr.-Evansville) was tied for 44th with a score of 258 (+42).
Stevens Point as a team finished sixth posting a score of 1004 (+140), but was the third highest Division III team behind the University of St. Thomas, who finished third, and Southwestern University, who was fourth. Berry College won the event with a score of 959 (+95).
The Pointers will be in action next on April 12th and 13th at the Carleton College Spring Invite. The event is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. at Northfield Country Club.
