TUCSON, Ariz. – The 18th-ranked UW-Stevens Point softball team fell to Babson College 5-3, but defeated Luther College on Friday to cap off the Tucson Trip for the Pointers.
It was a five-run second inning that propelled Babson to defeat the Pointers in the first game of the day.
Melissa Wenig (Oshkosh/West) (
So.-Oshkosh/West) scored a pair of unearned runs in the third and fifth innings.
Brittany Zelenka (Marathon/Marathon) (
So.-Marathon) then hit a solo home run in the sixth inning to cut the lead to 5-3. That would be the final as the Pointers had the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but could not get anything going.
Korryn Brooks (Stevens Point/SPASH) (
Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) and
Brittany Zelenka (Marathon/Marathon) each had two hits apiece to lead the Pointers at the plate.
The Pointers pulled out a 6-5 win over Luther College in its last game in Arizona.
Laura Van Abel (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (
Sr.-Kaukauna) was 3-for-3, while
Samantha Bizeau (Gladstone, MI/Gladstone) (
Fr.-Gladstone, MI) was 2-for-4 in the win.
Stevens Point is now 12-2 and finishes 8-2 Tucson Invitational Games. The Pointers next game will be Tuesday, April 1st when they play a doubleheader at Northland College. The first game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
