TUCSON, Ariz. – The 18th-ranked UW-Stevens Point softball team got past Manchester 2-1 in the first game of the day and then beat Buena Vista University 9-1 in five innings to finish its second-to-last day at the Tucson Invitational Games.
Kayla Kastenmeier (Ashwaubenon/Ashwaubenon) (
So.-Ashwaubenon) pitched a complete game and struck out 13 to get the win over Manchester. She gave up just five hits and walked one.
Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL/Batavia) (
Fr.-Batavia, IL) was 2-for-3 to lead Stevens Point at the plate.
The second game of the day proved to be a little easier as the Pointers defeated the Beavers 9-1 in five innings.
Allison Dorn (Greenville/Fox Valley Lutheran) (
Jr.-Greenville/Fox Valley Lutheran) scattered seven hits and struck out three to get the win.
Niki Schomer (Marinette/Marinette) (
Sr.-Marinette) was 2-for-2 and
Melissa Wenig (Oshkosh/West) (
So.-Oshkosh/West) 2-for-3 to lead Stevens Point at the plate.
The Pointers are 11-1 overall and will play their final two games in Tucson tomorrow when they face Babson College and Luther College. The first game is at 4 p.m.
