TUCSON, Ariz. – The 18th-ranked UW-Stevens Point softball team improved to 8-0 today with a 6-4 victory over Amherst College and a 12-4 win over Lakeland College at the Tucson Invitational Games.
Hope Krause (Mishicot/Mishicot) (
Sr.-Mishicot) pitched four innings with a pair of strikeouts, while
Allison Dorn (Greenville/Fox Valley Lutheran) (
Jr.-Greenville/Fox Valley Lutheran) went three innings and allowed just two hits and one run in the first game against Amherst. The Pointers had 13 hits in the game led by
Chelsea McIlquham (Sun Prairie/Sun Prairie) (
Sr.-Sun Prairie), who was 3-for-3.
Korryn Brooks (Stevens Point/SPASH) (
Sr.-Stevens Point/SPASH) and
Elyse Nelson (Batavia, IL/Batavia) (
Fr.-Batavia, IL) were both 2-for-3.
In the second game against Lakeland College,
Kayla Kastenmeier (Ashwaubenon/Ashwaubenon) (
So.-Ashwaubenon) had eight strikeouts to earn the win over the Muskies. Stevens Point had 10 hits against Lakeland and was led by
Korryn Brooks (Stevens Point/SPASH) and
Danielle Ashbeck (Wabeno/Wabeno) (
Sr.-Wabeno), who both went 2-for-4.
The Pointers will have a day off tomorrow and will face North Central College and California Lutheran on Wednesday. The first game will be at 9:15 a.m.
