ADA, Ohio – The UW-Stevens Point men's track 4x400-meter relay team placed third today at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Ohio Northern University.
The relay team consisted of Brad Koback (Amherst/Amherst) (Jr.-Amherst), Pat Leonard (Sr.-Chicago, IL/Brother Rice), Josh Schwinn (Fr.-Howards Grove), and Nicholas Ver Duin (Howards Grove/Howards Grove) (Sr.-Howards Grove). They ran a time of 3:20.31 seconds to finish third and earn All-American honors. It is the second straight year that 4x400 relay team has placed third at the NCAA Indoor Championships. Ver Duin was also part of that team.
Ver Duin competed in the 400-meter dash on Friday night, but failed to qualify for the finals as he ran a time of 49.81 seconds.
The only other Pointer performing was Mark Cufaude (Evansville/Evansville) (So.-Evansville). Cufaude placed seventh in the pole vault Friday night to earn himself All-American honors. Cufaude cleared a height of 16'-1.75”, which is a personal best and a school record.
Stevens Point finished tied for 25th out of 66 teams. UW-La Crosse won the national championship with 43 points. It's the Eagles seventh NCAA Indoor title in the last eight years.
The Pointers will begin the outdoor season March 29th at the North Central Invitational. Events begin at 12:30 p.m.
