Ver Duin Takes Two Events as Pointers Place Fifth at WIAC Indoor Championships

SUPERIOR – The 10th-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team finished fifth out of nine teams at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships at UW-Superior.

UW-La Crosse won its seventh straight WIAC Indoor championship with 137.50 points. UW-Whitewater was second with 125 points. UW-Oshkosh was third with 104.50 points and UW-Platteville was fourth with 101.50 points. The Pointers were fifth with 100 points.

Nick Ver Duin (Sr.-Howards Grove) won the 200-meter dash breaking a track record with a time 22.13 seconds, which is the fastest in the conference. Ver Duin also broke the track record in the 400-meter dash, winning in a time of 49.39 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay team took first with a track record time of 3:22.20 seconds.

Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) (Fr.-Milwaukee/Riverside University) finished second in the 55-meter dash in a time of 6.48 seconds. Phil Richert (Andover, MN/Andover) (Jr.-Andover, MN) was second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:40.37 seconds. Derek Stone (Belvidere, IL/Belvidere) (Fr.-Belvidere, IL) was also second in the high jump, clearing 1.96 meters a fieldhouse record.

The 24th annual NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships will take place Friday and Saturday, March 14-15 at the ONU Sports Center hosted by Ohio Northern University.
