Pointers Take First at Home Invite

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point men's track team made it three-for-three today as it took first out of 10 teams at the 2008 Eastbay Invitational in the Multi-Activity Center.

The Pointers have placed first in their opening three events of the indoor season. The Pointers amassed 164 points to take the top spot. UW-Oshkosh was second with 144 points, University of Minnesota-Duluth was third with 108.50 points, UW-Eau Claire was fourth with 107.50 points, and Carthage was fifth with 49 points.

The Pointers won six events today. Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) (Fr.-Milwaukee/Riverside University) won the 55-meter dash with a time of 6.54 seconds. Ingram also placed first in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.74 seconds. Greg Haak (Belleville/Belleville) (Sr.-Belleville) won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.56.

The Pointer 4x200-meter and 4x400-meter relay teams also won their events as the 200-meter team won with a time of 1:32.05 and the 400-meter team posted a winning time of 1:32.05. Phil Richert (Andover, MN/Andover) (Jr.-Andover, MN) finished second in the 5,000-yard run with a time of 14:51.10.

In field events, Derek Stone (Belvidere, IL/Belvidere) (Fr.-Belvidere, IL) was first in the high jump, clearing a height of 1.91 meters. Mark Cufaude (Evansville/Evansville) (So.-Evansville) was second in the pole vault as he cleared 4.91 meters.

The Pointers will be in action next Saturday when they compete in the UW-Platteville Invitational. Events begin at 10:30 a.m.
