SUPERIOR – The UW-Stevens Point women's track and field team is in sixth place out of nine teams on the first day of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships held at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse on the campus of UW-Superior.
UW-La Crosse is in first place with 75.33 points. UW-River Falls is second with 39 points, UW-Oshkosh is third with 37.50 points, UW-Eau Claire is fourth with 32.83 points, UW-Stout is fifth with 23.33 points, and the Pointers are sixth with 12 points. UW-Whitewater, UW-Superior, and UW-Platteville fill out the rest of the field.
Hannah Dieringer (Spencer/Spencer) (Sr.-Spencer) finished third in the 5,000-meter run finishing in a time of 18:22.59 seconds. The Stevens Point “A” distance medley team also placed third with a time of 12:42.53 seconds.
Liz Caine (Jr.-Plover/SPASH) qualified for the finals in the 55-meter dash, running a time of 7.35 seconds, which matches her fastest time of the season. Andrea Irvine (Green Bay/Bay Port) (Sr.-Green Bay/Bay Port) and Kathleen Folbrecht (Jefferson/Jefferson) (So.-Jefferson) advanced to the finals in the 400-meter dash. Irvine, Caine, and Laura Simonis (Rosholt/Rosholt) (Jr.-Rosholt) qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash. Angela Steffens (Cottage Grove/Madison LaFollette) (Sr.-Cottage Grove/Madison LaFollette) had the third-fastest time in the 800-meter run to qualify for the finals.
The Pointers will compete in the second day of action at the WIAC Indoor Championships tomorrow at Lydia Thering Fieldhouse with events beginning at 9 a.m.
