STEVENS POINT – The 11th-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's track and field team won its fourth indoor meet of the season, beating out 16 teams today at the 2008 Pointer Invitational in the Multi-Activity Center.
The Pointers took first with 165.50 points. UW-Platteville was second with 102.50 points and UW-Eau Claire was third with 88 points. UW-Oshkosh finished fourth with 71.50 points and Carroll College rounded out the top five with 57.50 points.
Stevens Point won five events on the day. Brad Koback (Amherst/Amherst) (Jr.-Amherst) won the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.76 seconds. The Pointers took the top two spots in the 800-meter run with Adam Steinke (Hewitt/Marshfield) (Jr.-Hewitt/Marshfield) winning in a time of 1:56.98. The Pointers also took the top two places in the 3,000-yard run with Sean Hasenstein (Sheboygan, WI/Lutheran) (Fr.-Sheboygan/Lutheran) posting a winning time of 8:51.45 seconds. The 4x400-meter relay “A” team also won with a time of 3:18.03. In field events, Mark Cufaude (Evansville/Evansville) (So.-Evansville) took first in the pole vault, clearing a height of 15'-1.5”.
The Pointers will compete at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Indoor Track and Field Championships next Friday and Saturday at UW-Superior. Events begin at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
