Pointers Take Part in Platteville Open

PLATTEVILLE – The UW-Stevens Point men's track team competed today at the Nike/Impact Sports UW-Platteville Open at Williams Fieldhouse.

No team scores were kept at the event. The Pointers won four running events on the day. The 4x200-meter relay team won with a time of 1:30.02. Stevens Point swept the top three spots in the one mile run with Travis Nechuta (Mosinee/Mosinee) (Jr.-Mosinee) winning the event in a time of 4:19.04.

Cory Baumann (Marathon/Marathon) (Sr.-Marathon) won the 3,000-meter run, posting a time of 8:53.55. The Pointers then took the top two spots in 200-meter dash with Nick Ver Duin (Sr.-Howards Grove) winning in a time of 22.54 seconds.

Derek Stone (Belvidere, IL/Belvidere) (Fr.-Belvidere, IL) was second in the high jump, clearing a height of 6'-3.25”. Chris Petrie (So.-Glenbeulah/Elkhart Lake- Glenbeulah) was also second in the triple jump with a distance of 43'-8.5”.

The Pointers will be back at home next week for the Pointer Invitational on Saturday. Events begin at 10:30 a.m. in the Multi-Activity Center.
