Sosnowski leads Pointers in Win

STEVENS POINT- The fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team used a three goal first period to jumpstart to a 4-2 win over the Lake Forest Foresters on Saturday afternoon.

Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Jr.-Plainfield, Ill./Central) scored two early first period goals to get the Pointers an early 2-0 lead. Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Jr.-Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) assisted both goals. The Pointers took a 3-0 lead into the locker room after Katy Lankey (Baraboo/Baraboo) (Sr.-Baraboo) beat Foresters' goalie Ryann McCarthy with 9:13 left in the first. Kellye Nelson (Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) (So.-Lino Lakes, MN/Centennial) and Jess Suter (Waunakee/Waunakee) (Sr.-Waunakee) assisted the goal.

Then 14:53 into the second period Grossmann scored her team leading 19th goal of the season when she capitalized on a power play goal to make it 4-0 Pointers. Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL/Shattuck St. Mary's (MN)) (So.-Sherrard, IL/Shattuck St. Mary's) had the assist.

Foresters' forwards Courtney Bean and Kelly Smith scored goals in the third period to get the Foresters on the board.

d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, MI) made 17 saves in her return in net to collect the win for the Pointers. The Pointers remain unbeaten with Phillips in the net.

With the weekend sweep of the Foresters the Pointers are now 19-2-2 on the season and 14-2-2 in the NCHA. The Pointers wrap up their regular season next weekend when they host Adrian College on Saturday and Sunday. Face-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on Saturdayand 2:30 p.m. on Sunday
