WHEATON, Ill. - The UW-Stevens Point swimming and diving team completed their two day competition at the Wheaton (Ill.) Invite, as the men and women both posted third place finishes.
The Pointer men finished with 667.5 points, putting them 214 points behind first place NCAA Division II Grand Valley State University.
Highlights included the relay team of Chase Gross (Edina, Minn.), Matt Olp (Oregon), Rob Donisch (Wheaton, Ill.) and Sam Davy (Stevens Point) finished with a time of 1:23.10 to take second in the men's 200 Freestyle relay. Gross and Donisch joined Ben Schreiber (Albert Lea, MN) and Ryan Farmer (Naperville, IL) in the 200 Medley relay where they also finished in second with a time of 1:33.43. Individually, Gross took home the 100 Butterfly title with a winning time of 50.20, and took second in the 50 Freestyle with a time of 21.17.
The Pointer women finished with 610.5 pionts, which placed the Pointers 341 points behind Grand Valley State who also took home the women's title.
Highlights for the women include BethAnn Abraham (Eden Prairie, Minn. ), who took home the 400 Individually Medly championship in a time of 4:40.01 and finished second in the 200 IM with a time of 2:11.90. The relay team of Abby Strobel (Neenah), Jenny Bussey (Ohanhassen, MN), Lisa Clemens (Wisconsin Dells), and Jess Nordstrom (Hibbing, MN) took second place in the 200 Medley Relay as the finished with a time of 1:51.23
The team will resume action Jan 17 when they host UW-Oshkosh and UW-Whitewater in WIAC action at the UWSP Aquatics Center.
