Marvin Notches Hat Trick as Pointers Bite Lions

Box Score

HANCOCK, Mich. - Freshman Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) (Shoreview, Minn.) scored one first period goal and two second period goals for the third hat trick of the season for the Pointers as she helped lead UWSP to a 6-1 victory over the Lions of Finlandia University in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) women's hockey action Sunday afternoon.

Marvin put the Pointers on the board first, connecting off a Nicole Grossman (Lindstrom, Minn.) pass on a power play goal at 12:17. Just over four minutes later, Trish Piskula (Antigo/Antigo) (Antigo) gave the Pointers a 2-0 advantage, again on the power play opportunity, to put the Pointers on top after one period of play.

Marvin started the scoring again in the second period and added another just before the end of the period, pushing the UWSP advantage to 5-0 after two periods.

In the third, Finlandia got on the board, as Chaslyn Duffek scored a power play goal to make the score 5-1, but Grossmann added an even goal at the 15:40 mark to seal the 6-1 victory.

Marvin's three goals came one each on a power play, even and shorthanded. The Pointers also tallied two power play goals and two shorthanded goals against the Lions. In their three games this season, the Pointers have outscored Finlandia 21-1.

Between the pipes for UWSP, Ann Hulme (Shaker Heights, OH/Phillips Exeter (NH)) (Shaker Heights, Ohio) recorded the victory, notching seven saves. Her Finlandia counterpart Annika Danielson stopped 35 Pointer shots on net.

UW-Stevens Point (5-1-2, 4-1-1 NCHA) is now off for the semester break and returns to action on Jan. 9-10 as they host Concordia (Wis.) and Lake Forest at Ice Hawks Arena. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. starts.
