APPLETON, Wis. - UW-Stevens Point shot just 32 percent from the floor against Lawrence and tallied just 29 first half points, as the Viking snapped an 18-game losing streak against the Pointers on Tuesday night, picking up a 75-59 non-conference victory.
The Pointers trailed early in the first half, but came back to take a one point lead with 3:45 remaining in the first half, but Lawrence answered and took a 7point lead into halftime, 36-29.
Lawrence started the second half on a 20-7 run to take a 56-36 lead with just under nine minutes remaining in the half and kept the Pointers at bay, not allowing UWSP to get closer than 14 as the Vikings held on for the victory.
Matt Moses (Fond du Lac/St. Mary Springs) (Fond du Lac) led the way for the Pointers, pouring in 18 points and grabbing 10 rebounds before fouling out.
Bryan Beamish (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wisconsin Rapids) added 16 points while
Khalifa El-Amin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) (Milwaukee) added 10 points and three steals in the loss.
Four Vikings scored in double figures, led by 17 from John Dekker.
No. 7 UWSP (4-1 overall) will try and rebound and do it fast, as No. 2 UW-Whitewater comes to town on Saturday, Dec. 6 as the Warhawks and Pointers face off in the WIAC opener for both teams. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
