STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team's season opener ended in a tie, as they battled St. Olaf to a 1-1 finish at Ice Hawks Arena Saturday evening.

After a scoreless first period, the Pointers got on the board first in the second period when Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Plainfield, IL) scored on a pass from Nicole Grossman (Lindstrom, MN).

In the third period, the Oles needed just 3:36 to tie the game as Melissa Sailor scored on an assist from Kristen Latta.

The Pointers d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, MI) recorded 22 saves in net, while Oles goalie Jessica Ptachick finished with 36 saves.

In their next game, the Pointers will take on Finlandia at Ice Hawks Arena on Saturday, Nov.15 at 7 p.m. St. Olaf (0-1-1) faces the College of St. Benedict on Nov. 14-15.
