STEVENS POINT - UW-Stevens Point advances to their second straight Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) championship game by virtue of a 4-1 victory over UW-Lacrosse in the tournament semifinal round at Goerke Park.
The Pointers got on the board early, as
Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) posted the first goal of the contest just over six minutes in, taking a
Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield/East) and
Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) pass and finding the back of the net.
Just before half,
Jennisa Koch (Waupaca/Waupaca) (Waupaca) took a Prawat pass and beat La Crosse keeper Sagan Pizzingrilli (Madison/West) for what proved to be the game winner, giving the host Pointers a 2-0 advantage heading into the break.
In the second half, it was again all UWSP, as Bieschke and Weise each added goals off Prawat assists for a 4-0 lead.
In the closing minutes, UW-La Crosse's Sarah Harrington (Apple Valley, Minn.) scored on a Michaela Kocon (Plymouth, Minn.) for the Eagle's only score.
The goal by La Crosse is the first goal surrendered to a conference opponent by
Pam Luckow (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (Kaukauna) this season. Luckow had four saves in the win. Pizzingrilli tallied five saves in the loss.
UW-Stevens Point (16-3-0) will face the winner of the UW-Eau Claire vs. UW-Whitewater semifinal game scheduled for 2 p.m. on Friday at Community Stadium in the WIAC championship game at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8 at the Point Soccer Bowl.
