Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Lindstrom, Minn.) tallied the second hat trick of her Pointer career on Tuesday and added an assist as UW-Stevens Point defeated the Auggies of Augsburg 7-1 at Ice Hawks Arena in non-conference women's hockey action.
Grossmann tallied the first of her three goals on the day 4:24 into the game off a Rachel Graves (Bemidji, Minn.) to give the Pointers the 1-0 advantage.
Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Burnsville, Minn.), fresh off a hat trick herself just nine days earlier, added UWSP's second goal of the game at 17:46 off a power play opportunity, assisted by Grossmann and
Tracy Butler (Marshfield/Marshfield) (Marshfield) to give the Pointers the 2-0 advantage after one period of play.
In the second Period,
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) (Shoreview, Minn.) added her added her third goal of the season off a
Ariel Novak (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Lindstrom, Minn.) pass to push the lead to 3-0 midway through the period. Augsburg's Kali Holst answered for the Auggies, notching a power play goal at 15:13, cutting the Augsburg deficit to 3-1.
But Grossmann answered for the Pointers, notching a goal with 2:47 left in the second off a Marvin and Graves pass, pushing the advantage back to three, 4-1 UWSP.
Grossmann struck again with 5:43 gone by in the third, again from a Marvin and Carothers pass, 5-1 Pointers.
Jenna Daggit (St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove) (St. Paul Park, Minn.) and
Michelle Sosnowski (Plainfield, IL/Plainfield Central) (Plainfield, Ill.) each tallied goals in the final minutes of the third as the Pointers cruised to the six goal victory, 7-1.
Cassi Carpenter (Forest Lake, MN/Centennial) (Forest Lake, Ill.) picked up the win for the Pointers between the pipes, recording 17 saves in two periods of work while
Claire Richards (Richfield, MN/Richfield) (Richfield, Minn.) tallied seven saves in the third period.
UW-Stevens Point (4-1-1) returns to action when they face UW-Superior and Finlandia on the road next weekend, Dec. 6-7.
