Petersen, Webber Lead Pointers Over Warriors

MILWAUKEE - Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) (Luck) poured in 22 points and Katie Webber (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) (Reedsburg) added 15 as the Pointer women's basketball team defeated the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran College by 40 points on Tuesday evening, 72-32.

The Pointers turned in a dominating performance over the host Warriors, jumping out to the early lead before the Warriors tied the game at 7-7 with 15:43 remaining in the first half. From there, it was all Pointers, as the traveling Pointers built a 16 point lead after the opening stanza, 37-21.

Poor shooting by the Warriors and stellar defense by the Pointers aided in UWSP adding to their lead, going ahead by 40 with 7:19 remaining and held the host Warriors scoreless for the game's final 4:46 to cruise to the 72-32 win.

Petersen added seven rebounds and two steals to her performance while Webber added three boards and three steals on the evening. Andrea Flease (New London/New London) (New London) tallied eight steals while Jessi Sporle (Mineral Point/Mineral Point) (Mineral Point) led the team with 12 rebounds. Nine Pointers scored for the Pointers, who forced 29 Warrior turnovers in the win.

Kristen Dillon was the only Warrior to score in double figures with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting.

UW-Stevens Point improves to 3-0 on the season and returns to action on Nov. 28-29 when they tip-off against Luther at the UW-Eau Claire tournament. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
