GRANTHAM, Pa. - After snow squalls the night before delayed the start of the game, the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team dug itself a hole it could not get out of on Saturday afternoon, falling to Eastern University 1-0 in the Sweet 16 of the 2008 Division III Women's Soccer Championship.

The Eagles scored first, as Jill DiRenzo tallied her 12th goal of the season off a Nicole Grindle pass and snuck the ball past Pointer keeper Pam Luckow (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (Kaukauna) for the goal at 6:32.

From there, it was a defensive battle by both teams, with neither team able to capitalize on their opportunities, as Eastern stopped all five of the Pointer shots on goal to hold on and advance to the Elite Eight.

Luckow finished with three saves for the Pointers while Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield) , Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) and Emily Walsh (Waunakee/Waunakee) (Waunakee) all tallied shots on goal that were stopped by Eastern keeper Amana Draveler and the defense.

The Pointers season ends at 19-4 overall. Eastern improves to 17-5 and advances to face Messiah on Sunday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. in Grantham, Pa.
