RIVER FALLS - UW-Stevens Point used a short-handed goal from freshman
Erin Marvin (Shoreview, MN/Mounds View) (Shoreview, Minn.) and even goals from
Jenna Daggit (St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove) (St. Paul Park, Minn.) and
Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Burnsville, Minn.) to defeat the Falcons of UW-River Falls 3-1 on Saturday afternoon and split their road series 1-1.
Marvin tallied the short-handed goal at the 13:27 mark in the first period after Carothers was called for a two minute hooking penalty to put UWSP a skater down.
Daggit and Carothers both scored in the second period, tallying their second and sixth goals of the season respectively as the Pointers built a 3-0 advantage heading into the game's final period.
In the third UW-River Falls' Abby Sunderman tallied a goal at the 5:30 mark, but it was not enough to spark the Falcon offense as the No. 9 ranked Pointers handed the No. 6 ranked River Falls their first loss of the 200-09 season.
d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, Mich.) went the distance for the Pointers in net, tallying 32 saves while Cassi Campbell recorded 16 for the Falcons in the loss.
UW-Stevens Point (3-1-1, 3-1 NCHA) returns to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 when they host Augsberg at 7 p.m. at Ice Hawks Arena in Stevens Point.
