STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team cruised to a 69-48 victory over Viterbo on Saturday afternoon on their way to winning the championship of the 2008 Pointer Tip-Off Tournament.  Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) (Luck) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player while Jessi Sporle (Mineral Point/Mineral Point) (Mineral Point) was named to the All-Tournament team.

The Pointers, down by four early, 13-9, closed out the half on a 21-7 run to build a 10 point halftime lead over the V-Hawks, 30-20, behind .500 shooting from the floor and 10 first-half points from tournament MVP Petersen.

In the second half, the Pointers continued to dominate, opening up a 20 point lead, 50-30, with 8:52 remaining in the game as they held the visitors at bay to capture their fourth straight tip-off tournament title.

Leading the way for the Pointers was Sporle who tallied 20 points on 9-of-15 shooting and added five rebounds in the victory. Petersen finished the day a perfect 9-for-9 from the floor for 19 points and added six rebounds and four blocks. Katie Webber (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) (Reedsburg) finished the day with 11 points and four rebounds as the third Pointer to score in double-figures on the day.

UW-Stevens Point (2-0) next faces Wisconsin Lutheran on Nov. 25 in Milwaukee. That game is scheduled for 7 p.m.
