EAU CLAIRE - The Pointers swimming and diving team had a successful day at the WIAC relays Saturday, as the men finished first and women placed second.
The men's team took home nine of 22 titles en route to their 152 point performance, 32 points ahead of host UW-Eau Claire. The Pointers captured titles in the 400-yard individual medley relay, 800-yard freestyle, 300-yard individual medley, 200-yard freestyle, 1500-yard freestyle, 200-yard medley, 300-yard butterfly, 300-yard breaststroke and the 400-yard freestyle.
On the women's side, the Pointers narrowly missed out on first place, finishing four points shy of UW-La Crosse for the women's title. UWSP took home titles in the 1500-yard freestlye, 300-yard breast stroke, 850-yard freestyle and 400-yard freestyle. Jenna Shelerud (Esko, Minn.) also took home the women's 1m diving crown, finishing with a final score of 216.40.
This marks at least the 11th straight season the Pointer men's swimming and diving team has finished first at the WIAC relays, dating back to 1998.
