RIVER FALLS - The No. 6 ranked Falcons of UW-River Falls handed the No. 9 ranked Pointers of UW-Stevens Point a 4-2 loss on Friday evening in NCHA women's hockey action.
Goals from
Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Burnsville, Minn.) and
Erika Greenen (Naperville, IL/Central) (Naperville, Ill.) were not enough for the Pointers as the River Falls improved to 5-0 overall, 3-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association thanks to two goals in the second period and one in the fourth.
At 14:44 in the first period, River Falls got on the board as Jessica Thompson scored a power play goal and giving the home team the 1-0 lead.
In the second, Carothers answered for the Pointers, tying the game at one just :58 into the period. The Falcons answered back, retaking the lead at the 5:18 mark off a Jamie Briski goal. Breanna Hrabe added another goal for the Falcons just before the end of the period to give UWRF a 3-1 advantage after two.
In the third, both teams traded goals, as Greenen cut the Pointer deficit to 3-2, but Hrabe added her second of the game to seal the victory for the Falcons.
UW-Stevens Point will try and split the weekend series with the Falcons tomorrow afternoon, as they face River Falls Saturday at 2:05 p.m.
