Blue Devils Stun Pointers 4-3

Box Score

STEVENS POINT - An early 3-0 lead disappeared fast as the Blue Devils of UW-Stout scored one goal in the second period and three in the third to stun the Pointers 4-3 and hand the Pointers their first home loss of the season at K.B. Willett Arena.

The Pointers jumped out to the early 3-0 lead, thanks to goals from Russell Law (Bay City, MI/Shattuck (MN)) (Bay City, Mich.), Jon Madden (Brighton, MI/Howell) (Brighton, Mich.) and Travis Erstad (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) (Stevens Point) in the games first 5:23 giving the Pointers the lead on the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association's (NCHA) second-highest scoring team.

In the second, Stout's Matt Morin tallied the Blue Devil's first goal of the game at the 19:55 mark, giving the visitors a spark heading into the final period.

At the start of the third, Jack Gaulrapp scored just 1:15 in to cut the Pointer lead to one, 3-2. At the 12:42 mark, Eric Scovill added to the scoring for Stout, knotting the game at three goals apiece. Just over four minutes later, Jared Britton found the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winning goal at 17:09.

UWSP had a flurry of shots in the game's final minute, pulling Tom Spear (Janesville) and adding the extra attacker, but Matt Koenig, who joined the game five minutes in after starting goalkeeper Jesse Pischar was pulled, stopped each Pointer attempt as the Blue Devils held on for the victory.

UW-Stevens Point (6-2, 1-2 NCHA) will try to return to their winning ways on Saturday evening when they host UW-River Falls (1-5-1, 1-2 NCHA). UW-Stout (6-4, 1-2 NCHA) will host UW-Eau Claire in their Saturday evening game in Menomonie.
