Moses Powers Pointers Past Warriors

Box Score

MILWAUKEE – Matt Moses (Fond du Lac/St. Mary Springs) (Fond du Lac) had a career night, posting his first career double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds, as the Pointers were victorious in their first road test of the 2008-09 season, defeating the Warriors of Wisconsin Lutheran 71-59 at the Recreation Complex.

“Matt (Moses) is a tough kid,” said head coach Bob Semling. “He has worked hard for two years. After some tough lessons, I think he is ready to take the next step.”

The Pointers jumped out to the early 17-3 lead and after a scoring drought that lasted almost five minutes, the Pointers outpaced the Warriors and took a 35-20 lead after the opening stanza.

In the second half, the Warriors made a run, cutting the lead to eight with 9:32 remaining, but from there it was all Pointers, as Moses and Khalifa El-Amin (Milwaukee/Rufus King) (Milwaukee) gave the Pointers their second win of the 2008-09 season, 71-59.

Moses finished with a team-high 21 points while El-Amin finished with 13 points and four steals in the victory. Bryan Beamish (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wisconsin Rapids) was the only other Pointer to score in double figures on the evening, adding 11 points, five assists and five rebounds.

For Wisconsin Lutheran, Sam Siemers (Nicollet, Minn.) led the way with 13 points and six rebounds.
UW-Stevens Point (2-0) will next face Southwestern University in a tournament at Trinity in San Antonio on Friday, Nov. 22 at 5 p.m.
