Pointers Defeat Lions 6-0 to Sweep Weekend Series

STEVENS POINT - The Pointers used three power play goals one shorthanded goal to defeat the Lions of Finlandia University 6-0 on Sunday afternoon at Ice Hawks Arena in Stevens Point.

The Pointers posted three goals in the first period, as Samantha Scheving (Warroad, MN/Warroad) (Warroad, Minn.), Trish Piskula (Antigo/Antigo) (Antigo) and Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Burnsville, Minn.) all tallied goals to give the Pointers the 3-0 advantage after one. In the second, Rachel Graves (Bemidji, Minn.) and Jenna Daggit (St. Paul Park, MN/Park of Cottage Grove) (St. Paul Park, Minn.) each tallied goals for the Pointers, pushing the advantage over the Lions to 5-0.

Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Lindstrom, Minn.) added a shorthanded goal at the start of the third period to make the advantage 6-0, as the Pointers tandem goalkeeping of d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (Swartz Creek, Mich.) and Cassi Carpenter (Forest Lake, MN/Centennial) (Forest Lake, Minn.) teamed up for the shutout.

UW-Stevens Point (2-0-1) will travel to play NCHA foe UW-River Falls in two games next weekend, Nov. 21-22 in River Falls. Game times are scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and 2:05 p.m. respectively.
