Pointers Advance with 6-0 Win

STEVENS POINT - UW-Stevens Point used goals from five different players and one own goal by Edgewood College to advance to the second round of the 2008 NCAA Division III Women's Soccer tournament for the second straight season, picking up the 6-0 victory on Saturday afternoon.

The Pointers jumped all over the Eagles early, building a three goal lead just 14:26 into the game as Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield), Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wisconsin Rapids) and Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) (Oconomowoc) all tallied goals for the Pointers in the game's opening half. After an own goal by Edgewood gave the Pointers a 4-0 advantage, Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) added a goal for the Pointers just before halftime to give UWSP a 5-0 lead at the close of the half.

In the second half, Jennisa Koch (Waupaca/Waupaca) (Waupaca) added a goal for the Pointers off a Prawat pass just: 32 in, giving the Pointers the 6-0 advantage they held on to for the win.

The Pointer defense held Edgewood to just seven shots, all in the second half, and just three shots on goal, en route to the 6-0 victory. Pam Luckow (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (Kaukauna) made three saves in net while Eagle's keeper Ilana Bar-av also tallied three stops.

UW-Stevens Point (18-3) will face Loras College, who advanced by virtue of a 4-1 PK victory in the other first round match-up against the University of St. Thomas, in the second round game at 1 p.m. at the Point Soccer Bowl. Edgewood's season ends with a 16-4-2 overall record.
