Pointer Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Win Border Battle

STEVENS POINT - The UW-Stevens Point men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both triumphant over Minnesota State and the University of South Dakota on Saturday, completing a sweep of the Border Battle at the UWSP Aquatic Center.

The men's team got 10 event wins on their way to 1075.5 points and a 68.5 point victory over Minnesota State. Chase Gross (Edina, Minn.) was a multiple winner for the men, earning victories in the 100 freestyle, 200 IM and two victories as part of the 200 and 400 freestyle relay teams. Sam Davy (Stevens Point) was a also a member of the three men's relay teams that earned victories on Saturday, joining Gross on the 200 and 400 free relay teams as well as leading off the 800 free relay team that finished in a time of 7:19.53.

Brent Schwartz (Waukesha) and Rob Donish (Wheaton, Ill.) were also winners at the 200 breaststroke and 200 butterfly respectively while Chris Hruska (Verona) was a winner in the 400 IM with a time of 4:23.00.
On the women's side, BethAnn Abraham (Eden Prairie, Minn.) was a winner in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.01, Jess Nordstrom (Hibbing, Minn.) won the 50 free (24.64), Jenny Bussey (Ohanhassen, Minn.) captured first in the 100 breaststroke (1:09.52) and teamed with Annie Houlihan (Plymouth, Minn.) to finish one-two in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.89 and 2:34.14 respectively).

Jenny Bennett (De Pere) was the other swimmer to finish first on the day for UWSP, taking first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:15.69. Jenna Shelerud (Esko, Minn.) finished first in the women's 3m diving event as well for Stevens Point, posting a score of 371.70.

UW-Stevens Point returns to action on Nov. 22 at the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference relays at UW-Eau Claire.
