Pointers Improve to 3-0 with Win over St. John's

ST. CLOUD, Minn. - UW-Stevens Point's Matt Stendahl (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake) (Forest Lake, Minn.) tallied his third goal of the season with 3:08 remaining to break a 4-4 tie and give the Pointers a 5-4 victory over St. John's in non-conference men's hockey action on Saturday afternoon.

St. John's scored the first goal of the game at 13:58 in the first period and added one more 2:31 into the second to take the 2-0 lead over the Pointers.

UWSP answered back, as Russell Law (Bay City, MI/Shattuck (MN)) (Bay City, Mich.), Stendahl and Sean Fish (Ramsey, MN/Anoka) (Ramsey, Minn.) each scored their second goals of the season to give the visiting Pointers a 3-2 lead midway through the second period.
St. John's took tied the score at 3-3 15:52 into the second period and Nick Polaski (Delafield) added an even-strength goal less than a minute later to again give the Pointers an advantage on the road.

In the third period, St. John's Brent Brodersen scored his second goal of the game to again knot the score at four with 11:44 to go into regulation.
Then, it was Stendahl, who on an even advantage beat Johnnies netminder Steele DeFazio for the game-winning goal.

UWSP is now 3-0 on the season. The Pointers return home to face St. Mary's at K.B. Willett Arena on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:30 p.m.
