Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) tallied another hat-trick, scoring three second half goals as the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point defeated UW-Platteville 4-0 in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) women's soccer quarterfinal action Saturday afternoon.
The three goals by Prawat marks her seventh multi-goal game and her fifth hat-trick of the season.
After the teams battled to a first-half 0-0 tie, the Pointer offense came alive, as Prawat connected off a
Mary Jean Cornelius (West Bend/West) (West Bend) pass to break the tie and give UWSP a 1-0 lead 52 minutes in.
Eight minutes later, Prawat tallied her second goal of the game and 27th of the season off a pass from
Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield) and
Meghan Vanden Heuvel (Naperville, IL/Central) (Naperville, Ill.) to give the host Pointers a 2-0 advantage after 60 minutes of play.
Weise added a goal of her own, the 24th of the season for the senior forward, to make the score 3-0 after connecting on a pass from
Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wisconsin Rapids) and Cornelius.
With 15 minutes remaining, Prawat scored the final goal of the game off a
Mehgan Musbach (Minocqua/Lakeland) (Mincoqua) and Spees assist to advance the Pointers into the semifinal round of the WIAC tournament.
Pioneer goalkeeper Hannah Krier (Port Washington) tallied 12 saves in net for the visitors while
Pam Luckow (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (Kaukauna) did not face a shot on goal as the Pointer defense allowed just three shots, none at Luckow.
UW-Stevens Point will now host the semifinal and final round of the WIAC women's soccer tournament on Friday and Saturday, November 7-8 at the Point Soccer Bowl. Game one at 11 a.m. on Friday will feature the Pointers versus UW-La Crosse while the other semifinal game will take place at 2 p.m. with the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater facing the defending WIAC champion UW-Eau Claire Blugold.
Winners of the semifinal games will square off for the league championship and the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m.
