WAUKESHA – The Pointer women's soccer team improved to 10-2 overall, defeating the Pioneers of Carroll University 5-1 on Wednesday evening off a pair of goals from senior forward
Kaylee Weise (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield) and three assists from
Emily Walsh (Waunakee/Waunakee) (Waunakee).
Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wis. Rapids) tallied the first goal of the game for the Pointers, her sixth of the season, off a Walsh pass 13:28 into the game, giving UWSP the early 1-0 advantage.
Just over five minutes later Carroll answered, as Cody Callender beat UWSP goalkeeper
Pam Luckow (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (Kaukauna), knotting the game at 1-1.
From there it was all Pointers, as Weise and
Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) each added goals before the half, putting the Pointers ahead 3-1, and in the second half Weise added her second of the game and 18th of the season and
Mary Jean Cornelius (West Bend/West) (West Bend) added her third of the season on a penalty kick as the Pointers went on to the 5-1 victory.
Luckow made three saves in net for the Pointers in the victory while Carroll keeper Ashlee Reinke made six.
No. 22 UWSP returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 when they travel to Eau Claire for a battle of conference unbeatens. Game time for the match against the No. 3 ranked Blugolds is scheduled for 1 p.m.
