Pointers Split At St. Norbert Triangular

DE PERE – The UW-Stevens Point women's volleyball team finished the day 1-1 at the St. Norbert triangular, defeating Finlandia University 3-0 and falling to St. Norbert 1-3 in two non-conference matches Wednesday evening. 

Against Finlandia, the Pointers hit .295 as a team (36-10-88) as they made quick work of the Lions, notching 25-13, 25-17 and 25-19 victories.  Leading the way for the Pointers was Michaela Rheineck (St. Paul, MN/Mounds View) (St. Paul, Minn.) who registered 10 kills and one solo block in the win.  Mandy Meyer (Eagle River/Northland Pines) (Eagle River) had a team-high 19 assists and Amanda Mix (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield) had 17 digs in the win.

Against the undefeated Green Knights of St. Norbert, the Pointers had a bit more trouble.  After dropping the first two sets 25-15, UWSP fought back to take a 26-24 victory in the third set.  In the fourth set, it was all St. Norbert, as the Green Knights cruised to the 25-14 clinching victory. 

Against SNC, Pam Nora (Forest Lake, Minn./) (Forest Lake, Minn.) led the way with a team-high 10 kills and registered 11 digs.  Chantel York (Lake Geneva/Badger) (Lake Geneva) collected 34 assists while Mix had 29 digs and four service aces.

UWSP (10-14) returns to action this weekend, Oct. 10-11 when they travel to the UW-Oshkosh tournament.
