Pam Nora (Forest Lake, Minn./) (Forest Lake, Minn.) tallied 10 kills and
Amanda Mix (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield) registered 17 digs as the Pointer volleyball team tallied their first Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win of the season Friday night, defeating the Falcons of UW-River Falls 3-2.
After falling behind 18-8, the Pointers posted an 11-1 run to tie the score at 19 before costly hitting errors by the Falcons and a Jen Rueter (Burlington) kill gave the pointers the 25-21 set one victory.
In the second and third sets it was all River Falls, as the Falcons jumped out to early leads in both sets and held on for 25-17 and 25-21 victories.
In the fourth game, the Pointers held the advantage from the beginning and never trailed, as they jumped out a 10-4 lead and cruised to the 25-17 win.
In the decisive fifth set, it was all Pointers as UWSP capitalized on seven attack errors by the Falcons and hit .500 (7-0-14) to cruise to the 15-9 victory.
Nora added eight block assists and eight digs in the victory for the Pointers. Rueter and
Michaela Rheineck (St. Paul, MN/Mounds View) (St. Paul, Minn.) each tallied nine kills while
Whitney Oftedahl (Waupaca/Waupaca) (Waupaca) added eight in the win.
Mandy Meyer (Eagle River/Northland Pines) (Eagle River) tallied 26 assists.
For River Falls, Kara Buffington (Hudson) led the way with 13 kills while Kelsey Scheele (Norwood, Minn.) and Gina DeRosa (Maplewood, Minn.) added 10 each in the loss. Scheele added 17 digs and 10 service aces for the Falcons while Alicia Cook (Washburn) added 36 assists.
Up next, the Pointers (9-12, 1-3 WIAC) will host UW-Stout at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 4 in Berg Gym. River Falls (9-11, 1-3 WIAC) plays host to UW-Eau Claire on Wednesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m.
