STEVENS POINT - Cailee Osterman knocked in the game-winning goal 2:05 into overtime to give the undefeated Tommies of St. Thomas a 3-2 victory which snapped No. 8 ranked UW-Stevens Point's six-game winning streak.
On a cold and blustery afternoon at the Point Soccer Bowl, the Tommies struck first when Erin Sprangers scored an unassisted goal 10:52 into the first half.
The Pointers battled back as
Jackie Spees (Wisconsin Rapids/Lincoln) (Wisconsin Rapids) scored off a pass from
Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) (Oconomowoc) to even the score. UWSP took the lead with 10:25 left in the first half when
Emily Walsh (Waunakee/Waunakee) (Waunakee) banged home her seventh goal of the season which was assisted by
Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) to give the Pointers a 2-1 lead at the half.
The second half proved to be a struggle for both teams offensively as the Pointers tried to hold on to the lead, but the Tommies finally broke through to tie the game off a Pointer own goal with 13:05 remaining in the second half which eventually sent the game into overtime.
In the overtime frame, Osterman gave the Tommies the win when she scored her goal on assists from Erin Sprangers and Alison True.
UWSP (13-3, 7-0) will wrap up the regular season Saturday when they host UW-River Falls on Senior Day at the Point Soccer Bowl at 3 p.m.
