Jennifer Rueter (Burlington/Burlington) (Burlington) tallied nine kills and
Jasmine Johnson (Appleton/East) (Appleton) added eight but it was not enough as the Pointers of UW-Stevens Point fell 3-1 to the Blugold of UW-Eau Claire in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action Friday evening.
The Pointers came out strong, earning a 25-23 victory in the game's first set, but Eau Claire, undefeated in WIAC play, came storming back, winning the final three sets by scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-17.
For the Pointers,
Amanda Mix (Brookfield/East) (Brookfield) led the way with 22 digs while
Pam Nora (Forest Lake, Minn./) (Forest Lake, Minn.) led the team with five block assists.
Chantel York (Lake Geneva/Badger) (Lake Geneva) had a team-high 24 assists in the loss.
For Eau Claire, three players tallied double-digit kills, including Abby Freiborg, Katie Fox and Rachel Ver Voort, notching 14, 11 and 10 kills respectively. Emily Haese had a game-high 38 assists.
UWSP (12-18, 1-6 WIAC) returns to action Oct. 18 when they take on the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior in Superior at 12 p.m. Eau Claire improves to 14-9, 6-0 in WIAC play and will host UW-Whitewater on Oct. 18.
