EAU CLAIRE – UW-Stevens Point senior
Amanda Prawat (Oregon/Oregon) (Oregon) tallied the only goal of the game with 13:36 remaining in the game to give the No. 22 ranked Pointers the upset victory over No. 3 UW-Eau Claire on Saturday afternoon.
It was the first loss for the Blugolds, who drop to 12-1-2 on the season, 4-1 in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). The win leaves the Pointers sitting atop the conference with a 5-0 record, 11-2 overall. It was also the first win by the Pointers over UWEC since 2004.
Prawat's 16th goal of the season came at the 76:24 mark, as she capitalized on miscue by Eau Claire keeper Allie Rivard to score the game-winner, unassisted.
Eau Claire held the advantage in shots, 12-7 and shots on goal, 7-4, but it was the Pointers who came out on top, as the defense held on for the victory.
Pam Luckow (Kaukauna/Kaukauna) (Kaukauna) tallied seven saves in goal to collect the win and her sixth shutout of the season.
This was the first victory for the Pointers in Eau Claire since Oct. 16, 2004 and the first Eau Claire loss since Nov. 10, 2007.
The Pointers return to action Wednesday, Oct. 15 when they travel to UW-Oshkosh for a 6:30 p.m. match-up with the Titans.
