Box Score

STEVENS POINT – The second-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's hockey team held St Olaf College (Minn.) to just seven shots on goal as it defeated the Oles by a score of 4-0 tonight at Ice Hawks Arena.

The Pointers remain unblemished on the season as they are 10-0-0. Stevens Point is off to its third 10-0 start in team history. St. Olaf drops to a record 4-6-0 overall. The Pointers defeated the Oles in the season opener by a score of 3-2 at St. Olaf.

After a whole month off the Pointers jumped right out of the gate scoring just two minutes in on a Jess Suter (Waunakee/Waunakee) (Sr.-Waunakee) unassisted goal. It was Suter's second goal of the season.

The score remained 1-0 until the second period when Tracy Butler (Marshfield/Marshfield) (So.-Marshfield) hit a slap shot from the point that got past the goaltender to make the score 2-0. Dana Carothers (Burnsville, MN/Burnsville) (Fr.-Burnsville, MN) assisted on the goal. St. Olaf was held to just three shots on goal through the first two periods.

In the third period, Stevens Point added to its lead when Jessica Edward (Sherrard, IL/Shattuck St. Mary's (MN)) (So.-Sherrard, IL/Shattuck St. Mary's) put a puck through the five-hole to make the score 3-0. Nicole Grossmann (Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) (Jr.-Lindstrom, MN/Chisago Lakes) topped things off with her team-high 10th goal of the season, a wrap-around goal with just over a minute remaining to make the final score 4-0.

The Pointers dominated the puck for much of the contest as they outshot the Oles 45-7. d'Andra Phillips (Swartz Creek, MI/Swartz Creek) (So.-Swartz Creek, MI) stopped all seven shots to earn her second shutout and improve to 6-0-0 this season. Erin McNamara had 41 stops in the loss for St. Olaf.

The Pointers will go on the road this weekend as they travel to face Concordia University (Wis.) on Saturday and Lake Forest College (IL) on Sunday. The Concordia game gets underway at 7 p.m. Saturday.
